Realta Fusion is a rapidly growing start-up developing compact magnetic mirror fusion energy systems to tackle climate change while ensuring abundant energy for ten billion people on (and off) earth. The Business Operations Manager is a critical member of our business operations team and will enable Realta to grow rapidly. You will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the day-to-day operations of the company. The role has significant growth opportunities, reports to the VP of Technical Development and regularly interfaces with the CEO and fractional CFO.

This role is based in our Madison office with minimal to no travel required. Additionally, this role is flexible to support hybrid work and/or off-schedule work (e.g. for candidates with care taking responsibilities.)

Responsibilities

1. Business Systems:

  • Responsible for the business operations of a fast-growing technology development start-up. Identify and implement operational improvements to optimize business performance leveraging technology and best practices.
  • Establish new business processes as required. Update existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as appropriate.

2. Financial Operations:

    Support and document financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting activities in collaboration with Realta leadership. Oversee day-to-day accounting operations with fractional CFO and external accounting vendor.

3. HR Operations:

    • Manage the relationship with our Professional Employer Organization (PEO)
    • Support and coordinate general HR activities.

4. IT Operations:

    • Manage IT infrastructure in collaboration with Realta leadership.
    • Manage relationships and contracts with IT service providers.

5. Third Party Contracts:

    • Manage relationships with external vendors, office landlord, and other 3rd parties as appropriate.
    • Track and organize external contracts (NDAs, consulting contracts, etc.)

6. General Office Management.

    • Manage procurement for the Realta Fusion office.
    • Manage business events, on-site visits, and meetings.
    • Support conference planning and logistics.

Required Qualifications

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  2. Business operations software tools: familiarity with MS Office, Sharepoint, Quickbooks, and other office management software.
  3. Entrepreneurial experience: Experience with early-stage start-ups is desirable. Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment, displaying adaptability, resourcefulness, and a passion for driving meaningful change.
  4. Operational experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in business operations, project management, or similar roles (preferably within the scientific/technical sector).
  5. Self-starter: Able to identify what needs to be done in an early-stage company, prioritize most urgent tasks and execute with minimal guidance.
  6. Collaboration: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to collaborate effectively with colleagues, external partners, and stakeholders.
